Yesterday I got my copy of “Era Eu Era Meu Mano, Era Meu Mano Mais Eu” in the mail. It’s an album recorded by Mestre Pernalonga and Contramestre Rafael De Lembá and was released at the end of December in Brazil. Since they are not planning any online sales, I am very happy to be one of the few people outside of Brazil to get my hands on the album!
If you know Pernalonga and Rafael, it’s needless to say that the music they recorded is amazing. I am sure we will be hearing their new songs everywhere in the next year. For me there is one song in particular that I love. It’s track 5 on the album and is called Um Par De Asas (A Set Of Wings).
The album mentions two different authors for the song: Mayko Syza and Professor Marrom (Paraíba). I don’t know if they are the same person or not.
There are two videos on YouTube of the song: one is of Mestre Pernalonga himself and the other one is of Contramestre Marivan, but neither have the lyric in their description. So I’d like to share them here.
Portuguese
Eu queria agulha do destino
pra costurar as feridas
me leva pra longe da terra
num lugar que eu possa descansar
eu quero um par de asas,
só um par de asas
pra voar pra bem longe
aonde a maldade,
aonde a inveja não pode chegar
quero um par de asas,
só um par de asas
não quero ser anjo,
e nem arcanjo
só quero voar
quero um par de asas,
só um par de asas
pra voar pra bem longe
aonde a maldade,
aonde a inveja não pode chegar
quero um par de asas,
só um par de asas
English
I wanted the needle of destiny
to sew the wounds
that live gave me
only then I would be able
to give myself again
because every day that passes
my heart hardens
it looks like it’s going to turn into stone
I build a castle of stones
before it’s ready I see the fall
because every love story
that I start with pain ends
take me far away from earth
to a place where I can rest
I want a pair of wings,
just a pair of wings
to fly far away
where evil,
where envy won’t come
I want a pair of wings,
just a pair of wings
I don’t want to be an angel,
or an archangel
I just want to fly
I want a pair of wings,
just a pair of wings
to fly far away
where evil,
where envy won’t come
I want a pair of wings,
just a pair of wings

Hi. I came across your blog looking for this album. Do you know how I can order it? I am in Canada.
Hi,
I bought it from a webshop based in the UK, that’s the only place where I was able to order it.
I think your best chance is going to events and see if they are selling any copies. I’ve been to a number of events and most of the time, the CD was for sale there.
There might be some Brazilian webshops who have it in stock as well.
Hi
I believe track 8 on this album contains “Foi estivador la do cais da Bahia”. Is this the song with the coro “Aruandê , Aruandê camará”? I’ve been trying to find lyrics for CM Rafael de Lemba’s version of this for a long time, so if you have them that would be wonderful!
Thanks
[UPDATE] There is now a version on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuNNedGD0zs
Hi,
Yup, that’s indeed the second song on track 8 of the album. This is the lyric that’s written in the booklet:
“Foi estivador lá no cais da Bahia
Marinheiro absoluto chegou pintando arrelia
Aruandê, Aruandê camará (2x)”
He sings a couple of verses, which are improvised I think. This is what I could make of it:
Quem quiser saber meu nome, ai meu bem
nunca ganhe perguntar
sou madeira que o cupim
teve preguiça de cortar
Vou me embora pra Bahia, ai meu bem
vou pegar um avião
mas quem tem dinheiro sobe, ô
quem não tem fica no chão
Vou me embora lá pro norte
Pernalonga que lá eu me dou bem
do norte vejo quem vai
do norte veio quem vem
Tum tum tum bateu na porta, ai meu bem
ô mamae vai ver quem é
é manoel da (?)
(?) de papel
Minha mamae me dizia (?)
que bonita ela é
ela é a pé da rosa
eu sou a rosa do pé
Quem quiser a ver capoeira, ai meu bem
vai no porto na Gamboa
lá tem siri de mangue
também tem siri coroa
Mayko Syza and Professor Marrom (Paraíba) it’s the same person.
Mayko Syza e Professor Marrom (Paraíba) é a mesma pessoa. (Escrevo melhor em português). Abraço.
Obrigado!
